$900 handout for Australian residents amended

Australians will get the $900 cash bonus they had hoped for after all. Senator Nick Xenophon joined with the Coalition to scuttle Prime Minister Rudd‘s stimulus package. Subsequently, this Thursday, Australia became the first country to vote down a stimulus package, designed to head-off a recession during the economic crisis.

The Prime Minister immediately reintroduced his emergency economic plan into Parliament and the package passed in a rare Friday sitting. The amended package will leave low-income workers and single income families $50 short. They will not get the promised $950, but $900. Those earning less than $80,000 will too receive $900, while people on incomes of between $80,000 and $90,000 will receive $600, and those earning between $90,000 and $100,000 will get a $250 bonus. The savings on this package will go to aid the jobless. Children from low and middle income families will too receive $900. Students and people outside of the workforce will receive $900 to spend on learning and training. The current plan is expected to boost the economic growth from 0.5 to 1.0 point in the next two years.

If you still have questions about the stimulus payment or if you want to find about getting yours, I’d like to direct you to contact a team of tax speciallists on australia@taxback.com or talk with the staff live online .

  1. people earning more than $80.000 a year dont need a hand out there already making twice as much as plus more than low income eg award wage worker

  2. cynthia :why? give it to people already making enough and putting enough money back in to our economay, why? not give to thoes people who are placed as mid class earners and thoes who are on centerlink payments and pension dont you think, by giving the well off people that have money they will only fill there pockets more therefore giving the middle class earners and centerlink revicer’s and the pensioners that struggle to live week to week need the money more. Where they will be using the money more wiseing, makes much more sence. However just because the goverment, in recession!!! Thats when you see the hands out! not because they are willing to help, and not because they care but trying to boost the economay back up in there favour where they stuffed up..

  3. yay.

  4. Excuse me we “higher income” earners should get some form of handout for a change.i personally pay $600 a fortnight in taxes,to not only support the disabled and single parents with their pensions, but THE LAZY DOLE BLUDGERS aswell.there are plenty of them out there and quite frankly they shouldnt get a cent.GET A BLOODY JOB.stop ur winging about being a low income earner.get a qualification if u need to, centerlink uses our money to pay for your educations so it is always possible.or take on extra work.u are who u make urself to be.i work 120 hours a fortnight, yeah im tired, yeah i have no life but atleast i make ends meet without bludging on centerlink.

  5. my parents are so called higher income and i dont see why they dont deserve the payout, they have worked hard their whole lives to earn a decent income, and we still struggle week to week, most of the money goes towards a morgage. i am a full time uni student who isnt entitled to any form off support from the government because of my parents income, because according to them my parents are ment to pay for my doctors and medication and everything. but they cant afford it. so now i have to travel an hour to uni pay for petrol work part time etc etc all because of some stupid means test. its about time us so called higher income families reserved a little help instead of just paying taxes for the bludges of the community.

  6. @Not Impressed I can’t imagine what you possibly do for a living to earn that much, since you are not only a poor writer but also incredibly ignorant. $900 to you would be, as you said yourself, just 3 weeks of tax returned to you. I am a full time student who works when I am not studying, and I need centerlink to live since my employers have had to cut all casual employee’s hours due to the current economic climate. $900 to me is so much, that I can only dream of recieving that much. So you can mope that you won’t get an extra bit of money in your paypacket this month, but how about you think about the people who are living, and I mean BARELY SCRAPING BY on the $500 a fortnight that centerlink and our government provide so that I can study. Oh, and by the way? I pay voluntary tax to my government, because I know how hard life can be when you can’t find a job. Open your eyes and stop being so ignorant.

  7. Is $900 handout is only for Australian residents or it is for international students as well, cause we also equally pay tax to Australian government.

  8. those ppl whos not impressed that mid class are getting it too well stuff you! you just want the money to all yourselves, its about time we get some too ! YAYYYY !

  9. when is the $900 actually given out?

  10. Nobody should get the 900. Listen to all of you, scrabbling over the scraps. How many of you need it?
That’s right, none. If the feds decided against the handout, we’d still be alive and just as well. There would be no boat to be missed. The sun isn’t exploding.

Imagine what could be done with a pool of money like that. Instead of pissing it away on big screen TVs and CDs (Those were the biggest benificaries of the last handout), we could be building infrastructure for our kids. New fast railways. New schools. Hospitals. Remember that all over NSW surgeons are closing shop on queues of people desperately needing surgery because the NSW Government didn’t pay the bills like they were supposed to (Yes, I know they’re not federal, but why can’t they overcome bureaucracy in hard times like these?)

But no. Can’t have that. Because all of you are too damn short-sighted and selfish. Well congratulations, you’re now encouraged to piss it all away on useless crap, or alcohol, or squirt it into the casinos. Have fun with it.

    Your children will thank you.

  11. @laurence

The Murray needs it, that’s what. *deep sigh*.

..and perhaps struggling pensiners who need their pokie fix…

  12. @kat

umm and you don’t think earning above 80,000 is a high wage and you should already be earning enough money to not need a stupid bonus?

how about just save up a days wage…

    geez.

  13. @Not Impressed
I agree with you in sight of the dole bludgers. But why not consider the sick pensioners that cannot work due to illness or disability???? and as for the get a qualification…. who the hell will be there to serve your dinner at your local restaurant, put you through the checkout at your supermarket, mow your lawn, clean your office building, wipe your butt when you are old!!!!! I really think you should get off your high horse and consider that not everybody is in a position from a young age to be able to get a degree or qualification because of family circumstances or whatever. you are selfish and very very ignorant. I work just as hard as you if not harder for half of your wage…. so a little bit of money to help pay off my credit card or finally get the overdue service on my car or even just having the knowledge that there’s a little bit of back up cash there to get us through is like gods gift. I know you can sleep at night thinking of your self but show a little bit of compassion and think of all of the people that actually need it!!!!!!

  15. How bout the scum of our society and the dole bludgers go and get jobs? Then you may earn your 900. Fair enough we earn a high income but do you really think that we get it all? No, last year I payed around $20,000 tax to pay for the people who ‘need’ big screen tv’s, cars and for teens to pop out babies for the baby bonus. You need to get a reality check- GO AND GET A BLOODY JOB, the $900 should be given out equally amoung Australians.

  16. There are no other country in the world that is doing this to it’s residence. I am proud to be in this country and I have been contributing my work and my life to this country. This is a great thing to happen to us. Be appreciative and show our gratitude to this stimulus by spending it wisely.

  17. for all these people complaining about dole bluggers. my partner has been trying to find a job for the last 18 months and all you cold find was a part time job at a caffe. she is not a dole bluddger she earns less than 25G a year and she doesnt get the hand out. it’s not that easy to find a job in this crises and anyone with a full time job should just be happy that they have an income.

  18. I don’t think any of us really need the money as it could go towards more beneficial things like fixing roads, hospitals or other much needed things.
Any money that we do get we should be grateful for. I don’t believe people who earn more or less should not get it. People who earn more are lucky as they got off their arse and worked for it. They also have to pay higher for child care and medical costs and other things when people not working or of little pay have cheap child care and health care cards to help so fair’s fair everyone!
