The booming Australian economy has opened possibilities to the country’s immigration department to expand its Working Holiday Visa so that more foreigners come to the country, which will provide additional stimulus for the local labor market. It is expected that the expansion of the Working Holiday Visa program will increase the cultural diversity and will internationalize the profile of the people who participate. The expanded program has sparked renewal of the interest in Australian immigration across the world.

There were nearly 250 000 Working Holiday Visas that were granted in the 12 month period of 2013. This represents a sixteen percent increase in applications in comparison with 2012. These visas were granted to people from a wide range of countries including South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and more. Australia currently wants to expand the Working Holiday visa program in order to include countries such as Czech Republic, Greece, Mexico, Poland and Portugal. In addition to that there has been registered a significant increase in the number of Second Working Holiday Visas that were being granted. The Second Working Holiday Visa allows Working Holiday Makers to remain in Australia for 12 more months provided that they do specified work in some designated rural areas for more than three month.  The increase in the number of Second WHV’s granted since this opportunity was first introduced in 2005 is significant with the amount growing from 2692 in the 2005-2006 period to over 38,862 in 2012-13.
