Canada needs more Nurses
According to a recent report published by the Canadian Government and Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the country is experiencing severe shortage of qualified nurses. The situation is especially severe in the Quebec Province where the following types of nurses are needed:
• Registered nurse
• Intensive care nurse
• Geriatric nurse
• Nurse technician
• Nurse educator
• Recovery room nurse
The Associations of nurses in Canada predicts that there will be around 60 000 new nurses needed by the year of 2020. Currently the working conditions and the salaries of the Canadian nurses are excellent, but still there are not enough people, who want to work the job.
The main contributor for the demand of this job is the ageing population of Canada, which has an increasing healthcare needs. Nurses are especially needed in Quebec, since the Government has promised to make Quebec the healthcare capital of the country and has started the building of two new “super hospitals” in Montreal. They are planed to open in 2015 and 2016. The objective of the Government is to attract some of the best talent in the world to work there.
Although the Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has suspended the Canadian Skilled Worker Program until the end of the year, the Quebec Skilled Worker Program is still open and all qualified applicants, especially nurses are encouraged to apply. All applicants who meet the requirements for the program may apply without having previously secured a job offer from a Canadian employer. After they arrive in Canada successful applicants will receive a work permit which will allow them to work anywhere in the country. There are around 111 professions that are eligible to apply under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.
