Canadian companies are searching to employ Irish Working Holiday Makers
Canadian companies are searching to hire people from Ireland who have obtained their Working Holiday Visas during the current year. During the last several weeks, Visa First received hundreds of calls from Canadian employers who are looking for these Irish workers. According to the Visa First records, around 5400 Working Holiday Visas for Canada were issued during the last few weeks. The Working Holiday Program allows to young people to visit Canada and to work there for a period of one year. In order to be eligible all applicants must be aged between 18 and 35. Furthermore they must be citizens of countries with which the Canadian Government has signed a bilateral working holiday agreement.
Some of the most popular professions for Canadian Working Holiday Makers are: chambermaids, ground workers, drivers, warehouse operatives and diesel mechanics. The increasing demand for Irish workers in Canada means that those people who were granted a visa during the last week will have high chance to get a job even before they have left Ireland.
“This working holiday visa gives the bearer the right to work and travel in Canada for up to one year,” said Edwina Shanahan, manager at Visafirst.com
“From our experience most travellers would prefer to have a job secured before they travel so that they don’t waste any time and money once they get there looking for work.
“We would estimate that approximately half of those who were granted the visas, maybe 2,000–2,500 people have not yet left the country on their trip, some people have not even booked their flights. We are confident that we could secure employment for approximately 80 percent of this group.”
