Philippines will join the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa program
The Working Holiday Visa scheme of New Zealand has been expanded so that it will include Philippines as well. From 5th February 2014, 100 young Filipinos aged between 18 and 30 have been able to spend a year working and holidaying in New Zealand each year. The agreement is a reciprocal one so 100 New Zealanders will be able to spend a year in the Philippines as well. Participants in the program will be able to work and live in New Zealand and of they do a work in the horticultural sector they will have the right to expand their staying period with additional three months on the top of the usual one year of duration. The program will be targeted to young people aged between 18 and 30 years old, in addition to that they need to prove that they have at least 4200 NZD in their bank accounts and intentions to return to their home country after the end of the visa. Due to the fact that the program requires that the Pilipinos, who come to New Zealand must have a degree, it is unlikely that any participant will be less than 21 years old. It will not be allowed that Working Holiday Makers bring their children on the trip. In addition to that they must not have any criminal records or serious health problems. With the inclusion of the Philippines, the total number of countries that participate in the program reaches 41. There is a cap on the number of working holiday visas that can be issued annually to citizens of most countries. There is no cap on the number of visas that can be issued to UK citizens. UK citizens can also stay for up to 23 months.
