Australia has an offer for those people who want to take a Working Holiday and earn some serious money in the process. Tourism Australia announced that it will create a new competition – Best Jobs In The World. Six winners will get a six-month job. The positions range from park ranger to lifestyle photographer, wildlife caretaker to Outback adventurer. The salary for each of the positions will be 100 000 Australian dollars including living costs. The campaign’s main target will be people aged between 18 and 30, but anyone of any age will be able to apply. The application may happen through Facebook or through the website of the competition – http://www.australia.com/bestjobs. The application deadline is set at 9 April 2013. Winners will be announced in mid-June, and all six jobs start August 1.
Jane Whitehead, who is a vice president for the Americas of Tourism Australia said that the competition’s aim is to appeal to both youth travelers with sense of fun and to those who want to boost their resume with an international experience.
According to Jane Whitehead youth tourism accounts for 26% of the total incoming international visitors in Australia. Working Holiday Makers contribute with more than 2,5 billion dollars to the Australian economy. Nevertheless Whitehead thinks that their contribution to the economy may be even higher. She cites studies done by America Wave, a company that surveys Americans on their willingness to relocate overseas. Its most recent survey finds that between 2007 and 2011 the number of Americans aged 18 to 24 who want to move overseas shot from 12 percent to 40 percent. In addition to that young people from countries such as Britain, Germany, Ireland and South Korea show increased interest in doing working holidays in Australia as well.
