The new US immigration bill may cut the illegal immigration

New York CItyUS illegal immigration may be reduced in half by a new legal bill that was passed by the US Senate. According to recent analysis the bill will include “border surge” which will make the southern border with Mexico much more secure. The Congressional Budget Office had already estimated that the immigration proposal of the Senate which is made by bipartisan group of Senators which is known as the “Gang of Eight” will decrease the illegal immigration by 25%. That proposal would have added 3,500 Customs and Border Patrol officers along the border with Mexico.

But the Senate approved an amendment brokered by Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., that would provide $38 billion to double the size of the Border Patrol to nearly 40,000 agents and flood the region with new drones, sensors and surveillance technology. Those additions, the CBO found, could cut illegal immigration by 33-50%.

According to Ira Mehlman who is member of the Federation for American Immigration Reform and an outspoken critic of the new bill stopping 50% of the illegal immigration still is not solve the problems that US have with the large number of illegal aliens that come to the country. Te debate will escalate as the new bill enters the US House of Representatives where the Republicans have the majority. They say that the border needs to be secured before they consider whether to grant status to those illegal immigrants who currently live in the country.

Wednesday’s report found that the bill would reduce federal deficits by about $135 billion over the first decade, due mostly to income and payroll taxes paid by legalized immigrants. Their previous report estimated the bill would reduce deficits by $197 billion, but that was cut back because of the cost of the “border surge” that was added to the bill.
